Education Forum Keynote to Address 5G and the Fourth Industrial Revolution

How will 5G impact the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector, and more importantly, what do these changes mean for those who work in the telecommunications industry? Answers and speculations will be offered during ETA International’s Education Forum Annual Awards Banquet keynote address March 7, 2019 in Las Vegas.

Patrick McNerney, COO, 3D Design & EngineeringGreencastle, September 27, 2018: 5G and the Fourth Industrial Revolution are right around the corner, and in fact, the wheels are already in motion. Smart Cities, self-driving cars, robotics, artificial intelligence, and connectivity on a scale previously unimaginable will be here before we know it.

“5G is not limited to faster speeds and a few new chic consumer technologies, but rather a complete paradigm shift in our society and how we interact with technology, said Patrick McNerney, Chief Operating Officer of 3D Design & Engineering which provides civil, structural, geotechnical, and mechanical engineering services specialized to meet the unique needs of the telecommunications industry. He added that business operations, personal relationships, and even the methods in which countries govern themselves will be impacted.

McNerney will offer speculations about how 5G and the Fourth Industrial Revolution will affect the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector at the ETA International annual Awards Banquet during Education Forum, co-locating with the International Wireless Communications Expo.

“The possibilities are nearly limitless, McNerney said, “but first, our industry has the daunting task of getting our infrastructure there, which is already happening with many cities running trials or full roll-outs of 5G.”

McNerney suggested that there is a lot that must be done to set the foundation for 5G and that it is going to take trained technicians, engineers, site acquisition specialists, carriers, municipalities, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) collaborating to make it happen. Hundreds of thousands of miles of fiber backhaul, the build out of ultra-dense networks, and upgrading existing macro site technologies are an example of some of the work that is ongoing.

How will 5G impact the ICT sector, and more importantly what do these changes mean for those who work in the telecommunications industry? McNerney has the answers to some of those questions and will speculate on others. He will discuss this exciting new wave of technology, its impact on end users, and the personnel in the ICT industry.

For over a decade, McNerney has been at the forefront of innovation in design, specifically regarding telecommunications, including: Virtual Site Tours, 3D Laser Site Scanning, 3D PDF presentations, and more. As COO for 3D Design & Engineering, he provides civil, structural, geotechnical, and mechanical engineering services specialized to meet the unique needs of the telecommunications industry. It was the first firm in Texas to incorporate 3D design with semi-autonomous heavy machinery for lake projects and one of the few engineering firms in Houston offering 3D laser scanning, photogrammetry, and virtual site tours. The firm is also specialized in the three-dimensional conception and elaborated engineering applied for the design and analysis of various structures.

McNerney has an Associate of Science degree specializing in applied engineering technology and holds multiple design certifications including: Autodesk Certified Professional, AVEVA Plant Design Management Systems, and NTT Fiber Optics, as well as being a commercially licensed FAA UAS Pilot (Drone Pilot).

In his free time, McNerney works as a volunteer for the Texas Wireless Association, of which 3D Design & Engineering is a member, and actively seeks partnerships with organizations that place an emphasis on quality, safety, and innovation. McNerney also enjoys volunteering at events that are committed to enriching the community in Houston, TX where 3D Design & Engineering is based.
