In an effort to increase awareness of the growing demand for certified wireless communications professionals and to encourage students along with United States Military personnel to pursue careers in the industry, ETA® International (ETA) and the International Wireless Communications Expo (IWCE) have partnered again to offer scholarships to attend ETA‘s Education Forum, co-locating with IWCE. ETA and IWCE congratulate these winners, who will be personally introduced to respected industry leaders and recruiters from government, public safety, utility, transportation, and business enterprise during the spring conference in Las Vegas.
(Greencastle, Indiana) March 13, 2023: Veterans and students interested in wireless communications careers recently submitted essays to win scholarships to attend ETA’s 2023 Education Forum, co-locating with IWCE during March 27-30, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Scholarship winners will receive one free seat to any of the 11 hands-on trainings of their choice.
It is ETA’s privilege to proclaim this year’s Veteran scholarship recipient, Anthony Prince, CETsr, Journeyman Technician for Day Wireless Systems (WA). A five-year Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he now has over 19 years of experience in the Private and Public sector radio frequency electronics field involving P25 System Installation/Repair, spectrum interference analysis, system design, maintenance repair, and various certifications.
While in the United States Marine Corps, Prince was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for his time with the 8th Marine Regiment HQ Company in getting his unit from around 20% to over 90% deployable status.
As part of his scholarship, Prince plans to attend one of the following trainings: Distributed Antenna Systems (ERRCS) Code Compliance (DASC), Line and Antenna Sweep (LAS), Microwave Radio Technician (MRT), or Radio Frequency Interference Mitigation (RFIM). “My career over the past 19 years has been mainly on-the-job training, and it has not been until I started working with my current employer that I learned that certifications not only give you adequate training but the proficiency to perform all tasks correctly and safely”.
ETA is proud to announce that Gavin Gonzalez, Hamilton High School, Chandler, AZ, is this year’s student scholarship recipient. Gavin is set to graduate in May 2023. After graduation, Gavin plans to attend Arizona State University in the Fall of 2023.
After graduation, he plans to pursue a career in the networking and technology world. “Since I was a boy, I had always found my fascination with electronics, and always wondered how everything was connected, and how they worked. As I grew older, I realized that my interest could be turned into a well-paying career” he said. “I decided to dedicate myself to understanding technology. It started small, learning how to build and operate a computer, but later in my senior year, I took the opportunity to take free classes at the East Valley Institute of Technology to further my networking abilities and gain the certifications to work out in the real world and build a career for myself”.
As part of his scholarship, Gavin plans on attending the Cybersecurity and Information Technology Security Training (ITS). “College excites me for the opportunities it brings. Between my degree and my training, I’m confident in my future”.
