ETA® International will recognize the contributions of an outstanding technician, educator, local chapter and top Certification Administrators (CAs) - all dedicated to the highest standards of electronics excellence - during the ETA annual awards banquet at Education Forum in Orlando on March 6, 2018.
Greencastle, February 21, 2018: ETA International peer awards involve the entire association and its industry colleagues to promote the arts and sciences of electronics technology and to educate the members and the public in the advancement, improvement and uses of the services of trained and certified electronics technicians. In fact, ETA is the only professional trade association dedicated to the support of electronics technicians!
Join peers and colleagues at ETA’s annual Awards Banquet during Education Forum, co-locating with the International Wireless Communications Expo, March 6th in Orlando, FL. Those deserving recognition for their dedication and enthusiasm for the electronics industry and their willingness to volunteer at a moment’s notice to represent their association include:
Technician of the Year – This distinguished award is given in honor of the late Norris R. Browne, president of the National Electronic Association (NEA) and a service business owner. For outstanding service to fellow electronics technicians, the 2017 ETA Technician of the Year award is presented to Greg Mecomber, CETa, Carlex Glass America (TN).
Peers nominating Mecomber gave the following reason why he deserves this award (paraphrased):
“I've had the privilege to once work with Greg at Shiloh Industries. He is known for his disciplined work ethics, taking charge of complex projects and keeping his composure in stressful situations that are affecting production while making clear decisions in doing so. Greg is active in the community and promotes STEM subjects in childhood education. He has earned the ETA International CETa and has mentored several individuals interested in careers in technology, electronics and manufacturing.”
Educator of the Year – This prestigious award is named in honor of Wallace “Wally” Medeiros, PhD, CETma, a US Veteran, communications professional and instructor at Honolulu Community College and the U.S. military. For outstanding devotion in educating those pursuing careers in electronics and related fields, this award goes to Vic Cerniglia, Pearl River Community College (MS).
Students nominating Cerniglia gave the following reason why he deserves this award (paraphrased):
“As my past instructor at PRCC, Vic went out of his way to give students the best education available. He requires ETA’s Associate CET certification for all students in his class. During my time at PRCC, the major I was originally seeking was eliminated, but he took time outside of regular class hours to mentor me and another student, teaching us so that we would have the knowledge needed to get into the field we were hoping to enter. Vic has been teaching for 19 years and has personally kept in touch with many students to offer career advice and mentorship.”
Chapter of the Year – For active involvement in the world of electronics, this award recognizes registered student and local chapters that support a continuance of dedication to both the association and the electronics field itself. Chapter #153, King Career Center, (AK) is this year’s ETA Chapter of the Year. Congratulations to the Chapter 153’s sponsor, Daniel Retzinger, FOI, MCEI, CETa, GCT1.
Top Certification Administrators in Certified Electronics Technicians and Fiber Optics certifications – ETA honors all CA’s in memory of Master CET George Savage, a two-term ETA Chairman and the first Technician of the Year. ETA presents this year’s George Savage Certification Administrator award for proctoring the most Certified Electronics Technicians exams to Debbie A. White, Windham School District (TX). The Fiber Optics Certification Administrator recipient of the George Savage Award is ETA Cabling Division Secretary/Treasurer Sean M. Sheedy, FOI, FOT-OSP, Light Brigade (IA).
ETA sincerely thanks all those deserving recognition for their dedication and enthusiasm for the electronics industry and their willingness to share their expertise to improve their association.
